The orange barrel season is well underway and bids have been taken for all but 2 of our projects. Due to winter savings and favorable bids on our summer construction program our Board has authorized two additional programs. The first is a gravel program made up of just over 16 miles of new gravel surface in eleven of the townships. The second is to do both the 2011 and 2012 chip seal (seal coat) programs next year. The Board’s directive has been to use saved funds from budgeted programs for additional road work.
In recent months there have been issues regarding individuals performing work in the road right-of-way without a permit from the Road Commission. In order to assure all work is done properly and to avoid having to re do the work it is important to contact the Road Commission prior to the start of work. The first place to start is by calling 616-842-5400 and ask to speak to a Special Services representative.
